There are two camping zones within Paintbrush Canyon and one designated campsite at Holly Lake which are available with a permit. The stars were out that night as it was a new moon. We headed down to lake solitude and the north fork campground, and found a place down by the river with a lovely view of the Tetons. So we headed to the divide, about another 2 miles ahead. The views of the North Fork of Cascade Canyon begin to appear. There will be intermittent 30-minute closures on a section of the trail near the summit of Paintbrush Divide between July 22-27 and August 5-10. A guarter of a mile from the Paintbrush Divide, the trail reaches a wooden directional sign. So we headed to the divide, about another 2 miles ahead. We all woke up to 40+mph wind gusts and snow around 2 am. Luckily, the weather held up while we were able to set up camp. The trail damage now poses safety hazards to hikers. The eastern slope is a scree slope and over time, water flow from melting snow and yearly visitor use has eroded and shifted the trail.
We made it to holly lake in about 4 hours, taking many breaks. Paintbrush Divide is the highest point along the Teton Crest Trail at 10,700 feet/3,261 meters in elevation. Temp 56F, rain, sleet, snow, and tons of wind all day. Due to our tight schedule, we chose to forge on. The weather was not the best, as a front had moved in the day before. We chose right and followed the signage to holly lake. Once you get to the string lake trailhead, you can choose which way to go. The Paintbrush tool lets you draw a path with a brush stroke applied so that you can create expressive freeform drawings whose shape and appearance are easy to adjust. Spent tons of time preparing and still managed to pack to much. This spectacular loop combines Paintbrush and Cascade Canyons via Paintbrush Divide.
